About Steel Rods

Steel rods are classified under ‘long products’. They are also known as steel rounds, round bars, round metals, or metal rods. Although also known as steel bars, they differ from the bars in their shape, with the former being round, while the latter being available in different shapes.

Production, grade, types, and finish

Metals such as plain carbon steel, stainless steel, cast iron steel, tool steel, alloy steel, and cast steel are used to produce steel rods. They are manufactured using the hot-rolling or forging process. Depending on the treatment type, they are classified as annealed, normalised, or quenched and tempered steel rod.

Steel rods are typically formed through casting, forming, reducing, annealing, hardening, tempering, quenching, and finishing processes. The surface can be formed as plain or ribbed. Steel grades used to manufacture these rods are S275JR and C22E. The S275JR grade steel is a low-carbon, mild steel, hot-rolled rod, while the C22E grade steel is a low-carbon, quenched and tempered, mild steel rod.

These are manufactured in different types for use in various applications. They are supplied as hardened, damascus, stainless, silver, spring, tool, and mild, based on the properties, process, grades, and finish of the steel rod. The finish given to a rod is dependent on its end application. Finishes such as galvanised, hot-dip coated, powder-coated, primed, and painted are processed per the end use requirements.

Uses of steel rod

Steel rods are stock bars used in various applications across all sectors and industries. The round and half-round rods are manufactured from different kinds of steel in order to suit the industry requirements. • Automotive The automotive sector has a wide variety of uses for these rods manufactured with precision and finishing, in applications such as gears, shafts, pins, rams, rolls, axles, spindles, worm bolt, gear studs, and many other such parts. The rods manufactured using speciality steel, stainless steel, or tool steel can handle high-stress, strength, torsion, and yield needs.

Construction Steels rods have a wide range of applications in the construction industry. Plain surface as well as ribbed surface rods play an integral role in the fabrication and reinforcement of structures. Due to their quality of being easy to cut, weld, and bend, these rods provide strength to concrete and fabricated structures with their solid core and ribbed outer surface rings.

Manufacturing Steels rods are used as indispensable components in almost all kinds of machinery across all industries, including heavy duty vehicles, lifting cranes, and vehicle pistons.
